There are two ways to charge an EV at home:
- Level 1 (120-volt) charging uses any standard outlet and the charging cable that came with your EV. Charging at Level 1 adds about 3 miles of range per hour and is best for those with short commutes or with frequent access to chargers.
- Level 2 (240-volt) charging requires 240 volts and adds range much more quickly. Depending on the charging solution and the charging rate of your vehicle, Level 2 charging adds between 12 and 50 miles of range per hour. If you already have a 240-volt outlet (dryer outlet) in your garage, you may be able to charge your EV directly from the outlet. EVs with this feature include all Teslas, and recent model year Nissan LEAF and Chevy Bolt.
